American Time Use Survey

The American Time Use Survey (ATUS) measures the amount of time people spend doing various activities, such as paid work, childcare, volunteering, and socializing.
For example - in 2009, employed persons worked an average of 7.5 hours on the days that they worked; they worked longer on weekdays (7.9 hours) than on weekend days (5.0 hours). Eighty-five percent of women and 67 percent of men spent some time doing household activities such as housework, cooking, lawn care, or financial and other household management on a given day.

Giving USA Foundation

The Annual Report on Philanthropy for the Year 2009

Report of charitable contributions in the US from individuals and corporations.
For example:
» Total estimated charitable giving in the U.S. dropped 3.6% in 2009.
» Individual giving fell 0.4% in 2009. Individual giving is 75% of all giving or $227.41 billion.
» Corporate giving increased 5.5%. This unexpected bounce takes corporate giving to within 1% of its pre-recession level.
» Giving to religion fell 0.7% in 2009.
» Giving to education declined 3.6% in 2009.
» Giving to foundations dropped 8%.
» Giving to arts, culture and humanities fell 2.4%.

Tell Me More

The library has a new language learning program called Tell Me More from Auralog. Lessons, from beginner to advanced levels, are available for the following languages: Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Lessons incorporate all aspects of language learning, including pronunciation, spelling, and grammar. Users need to set up a personal account and should use headphones with a microphone to take full advantage of the learning experience.

Artstor



ARTstor has collaborated with the Emilio Sanchez Foundation to share 79 images of works by the Cuban-born American artist Emilio Sanchez (1921–1999), which are now available in the Digital Library. Sanchez is best known for paintings and prints that depict the play of light and shadow on architectural structures. He also explored light and compositional structure through non-architectural themes, including still lifes and landscapes. Internationally renowned, Sanchez has had many solo and group exhibitions around the world and his works are represented in numerous private and public collections

The content is still the same -
IEEE Xplore, produced by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, is ideal for conducting research in the field of electronics, electrical engineering, telecommunications, wireless communications, and computer engineering. It provides access to IEEE transactions, journals, magazines, conference proceedings, as well as current IEEE standards. Complete full text is provided back to 1988, with select content reaching back to 1952.

The database Business & Company Resource Center has a new look, but still provides current business, company, and industry content including: periodical articles, press releases, corporate structures, financials and earning estimates, investment reports, and company histories. Sources include Market Share Reporter, Ward's Business Directory of U.S. and Private Companies, and other authoritative industry databases. Companies can be searched by name, ticker symbol, SIC/NAICS code, product/brand name or location.
